Polish, tips… Good as hell. Been back on omnivore for two weeks since that BBQ. There is a funny tight feel in my middle body. Thin there, just spine tight. The coolness is theres no pain, and I’m on some daily home stretch from here out.

This is really nothing more than an acknowledgement. On behalf of my ass, belly, thighs, and well my head. I would like to give a simple thanks to my bicycle, thanks Buddy. That is actually the silly name I have always thought to call my bike. So in internet declaration form, I would like to say Thanks Buddy. My friend who lives in LA posted on my facebook wall today, he posted “it’s finally warm there in Chicago, go ride that bike” or something like that. It was while I was responding to him that I realized that I always ride my bike. There was a 5 day period this last winter that I didn’t ride, you might recall that storm that hit Chicago this last winter…. yeah of course, biking was defeated just by looking out the window. Days after that storm, when the streets were all cleared, I was still in shock, and not up to the task. But other than that, why not? I have some things on my side. My commute is about 15 blocks, not too far. I prefer the chill side streets, but rock the main ones during the winter months, seeing as how they cleared faster. So no matter how cold, rain, snow, or whatever, I still ride. MAJOR PROPS to those with 5 mile bike commutes, you all rock. If that distance was involved in my life, I might have my ass on a bus seat. No el trains in my hood. Thanks Buddy.

Bulls… that all remains the same.

I listend to a Joni Mitchell record today, Court and Spark. I thought I had two albums by here, but no… just that one. I was surprised to realize that I knew most of the songs on the record. Ok, i’m exaggerating, I knew four songs… I find that a startling number considering I don’t think I can name any Joni cuts, Qtip rocked some Mitchell for a hook, nicely I might add in a Janet Jackson song. I was going to chop up a cut today, but got a bit bored of the sampler today. I think as I get older, I have to really set aside time to work on tunes. I can’t just sit down and produce the way I felt I use to be able to. That said, I have been zoning out on my back deck with the bass guitar more and more lately. I don’t see myself as ever playing bass in some band, so really… what am I doing thinking about music as much as I think I am? Don’t worry, I”m more puzzled by that last sentence than you could ever be. Mint Tea time.

Yeah, that word is working for me at the moment. I was told to have focus here by a friend…. I don’t think I can do that. The snappy beat of Ferel by Radiohead is preventing any real focus at the moment. I’m headphone bound at the moment, and I’m really glad I made that listening choice. It has been some time since I have donned these headphones, and I can’t believe I don’t do this more often. This sounds so damn lush. I know that when i’m riding my fixed gear bike with no brakes, and no lights at night that it is best to not be in headphone land. That said, I think I might go online and get some better headphones to rock this summer. I don’t spin anymore really, so I can step up to some big phones to hug my ears t sleep. The bass in Lotus Flower on this same Radiohead album is abundant. I now have mini baguette in my head… rocked one with avocado and goat cheese yesterday, and well, that did the gourmet trick. If I only had those ingredients at the moment.

A story.

There was not much fear in her eyes, she seemed to be surprised more than anything. We walked, the small group of three. I knew we were not sure where we were going, but we were going. My ex stepfather was not taking to well to being a fucking drinking asshole, not well at all. He was rocking the crazy look. This part of him was a surprise to us, just like the moments walking away from our house on Arcadia lane, walking down neil street with blankets and pillows. We walked into Hazel Park unsure of what would be the best place to rest. We were not tired from any kind of long walk or anything, no it was more about waking up in the middle of the night to get out of the house because he was being that drunk fool. He had never laid hands on us, any of us at that point, but there must have been something in my mothers head that told her that he was capable of doing so. We clearly didn’t doubt her, we followed. A slow sad group i’m sure to the waking sparrows that hung like magnets to metal on the trees in Hazel. We walked up and onto the wooden play land that was in it’s hay day the coolest attraction to that park. I have always loved playing on that crazy ass dangerous wooden maze of a structure. We would go there for recess sometimes from Columbia School across the street to the south of the park. We found a spot, maybe 8×8′, and laid out the blankets in the same motions you use to make ones bed. We laid down, pillows on wood, and pretty much laid awake for the rest of the night. It sucked, but I think I was more the embarrassed 12 year old than in any real discomfort. I don’t have memories of the morning, or the next day. We must have been cool as a family unit, but i’m sure it was within 30 days of that night in the park that my ex step father Hence Gray beat the fuck out of my younger brother John. Came home fucked up, and woke John up, and beat him up. This may have come up before, on this space. But the fact that this current Radiohead album just took my mind there again, must mean something. OK, most likely not. If you ever see people sleeping in the street, don’t hate. Be human, most humans care for each other, we can do that right.

On a lighter note, I bought some summer vibe socks today. Tamales and socks. Good day so far.

I have been perusing OK Cupid for the first time, yeah i’m single and confused about it. My super cute friend in NYC told me about it, and well.. why not. Before jumping into zoning out on that tip, I had flipped through my records, with this feeling of “i should sell this stuff, get some capital for design projects and travel”, that’s right, I have that much vinyl. So whatevers, I sat down at the computer with two random pulls from the records. The two mentioned in the title. Once I saw that I pulled the Busta album, I really got excited about hearing a couple of songs from it, Keep It Movin’, Do My Thing, and Flipmode Squad meets Def Squad. Boom went the needle to the groove, I was all in for songs I had not thought of in some time. Abandon Ship, Everything Remains Raw, and Woo Hah!!! were all damn fine songs. Enjoyed thinking of several rooms that I spun that record in from the past. It came out in 1996, and I was bumping this in the great club of old, Thekla in downtown Olympia, i’m talking the first location, not the megadome looking location that it moved to, and died at. Good times as the kids say. I went to file Busta back into the B section, and realized the record I was touching to move the pile off to the side, was Black Moon’s enta da stage (they went with lower case on the record, dope)… and well… it was over, if there were to be a competition between those two records. I knew that before I even dropped the needle onto side one, song one, Powerful Impak, and the rest was equally top notch. EVERY SONG on this record is worth rocking to this day. The pace is good, a bit up at times. Beatminerz on the productions, DJ EVIL D, you gotta be kidding. This is the record that taught me about street name in Brooklyn before I ever got to visit BK. Flatbush, Myrtle ave, Bedford…. My good friends that have been in BK for a while live in Bed-Stuy, and well… I love that hood. This record came out in 1993, sounds newer than the Busta joint. Point is. I”m thinking that listening to these last two records kind of got me off of the idea of selling my wax. Yeah. On an slightly related topic, I stopped by Permanent Records yesterday, on my way to pick up some tacos for lunch, and I ended up buying some good, old music for work. Bad Brains, Goatsnake, Tribe Called Quest, and one new joint, the Liminanas. The Liminanas record is very very good. French rock, female vocals, and the song Mountains if crazy. Beats Rhymes and Life, what a great Tribe record, the title alone says the story. yeah, so I”m going to make some Rice Pilaf, word up.

My friend and I had a really nice talk today. We mostly talked about growing up, which is funny because we are both suppose to be there by now. It’s nice to catch up with her, we seem to keep it a once every 3 months kind of thing. We shared goat cheese, dates, walnuts, olives, avocado, tomato, and decent bread. Little bites, lots of little bites. I snapped these shots of her seeds starting project, they will mostly likely end up in her organic garden plot at Thomas and Wood. Good stuff, good people, good spring feeling. I forgot to really pay any attention to the next spot after visiting her, it’s a new Amish Food joint owned by this really nice Polish woman named Lucy. I will comment the name once I get back to actually look at the sign. I bought an Amish whole chicken, lots of spices, rice, cheese, eggs, and buffalo smoked sausage. She even has Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar. Even hooked up some discounts. It’s on Western, just north of the Empty Bottle, or was that just south… either way, chill out and find it. Love this spot, I like her like I like Liz from Liz’s Bird shop (full on pet supply store). Yep, today was a good day, you were right Ice Cube.

I think, or.. I’m thinking, 40 is a dirty word. oh well. Hostile towards the Roth topic, seems like I should really get my hustle in order. This hustle is nothing near the thoughts that rise to your minds when they hear the word hustle, Nah, this is more to point or getting that nest egg concept in order. Some kind of something, land, gold, mold… I liked mold there, it just worked. Without actually working to the point in any kind of way. But then again, there is rarely a point to be seen. Speaking of points, I saw some words on the news about the fact that people point green lazar pointers at commercial aircraft, all kinds or planes really. There was this FAA vid showing the pilots viewpoint of this happening, it was fucked up. Green Fractal Flashes! Disco inferno type slash of light. They said fools are doing this at both Midway and O’hare airports, but that they are getting an idea of who these peeps are. I’m sure that last part was them flashin’ some false power there, but come on, the point is, please don’t let fools obtain annoying dangerous gadgets. Word Life, and Welcome Back Joakim Noah. I will be dumping cable after the Bulls have done whatever it is they might do. Baseball… suck it, go Cubs and all that, but really.. suck it.
