In 1980 I was in the fifth grade, Mr Weaver was my teacher. Lets just say he really taught us that gas and oil are not going to be the fuels of the future. I remember an Electric car being brought to Kenwood Elementary for us all to look at. It wasn’t pretty or even that cool looking, a basic muted triangle kind of look. OK, there isn’t anything muted about that call, it was a feakin’ Asteroids space ship.

That said, the wonder was on, I was sure that in the near future there would be lots and lots of electric cars, and some of them would even look as cool as my ex-step fathers forest green Riviera. Mr. Weaver had us all on some Solar, Wind , Water shit back then. Man… it’s taken a while right?

But check it…. by the time I got to high school, there was not even a flicker of electric car production. Reagan Reagan, Bush, Clinton Clinton, Bush Bush…. Nada! Everything not just got bigger, it just got plain dumb, Hummer anybody? Here are 2010 and there are a few Hybrids out there, Toyota Prius leads the way, Ford seems to have some small gains with their Hybrids, but a fully Electrically run car? Well, we got Nissan stepping into the game, and their new Leaf.

I like the leaf, and well… I sure as hell like the idea of an electric car making its way into the market. I don’t dig the price, 30,000, with some government incentives to make it a little cheaper. With todays fast trip to the tipping point of environmental disaster, we need to have these transport units cheap as hell. Make a stylish version that can be high end, for those suckers, but please also make a $7,000 model for the people. Yeah, I know.. not so profitable maybe. This is why it should possibly be a government run program, a mega trade in type deal. Tax credits, trade in rebates for Electric cars only, which would get old ass cars off the road (except for the well maintained classics of course, the 67 super sport chevelle/malibu’s and such) It would be a massive movement of some good for the planet. Crooks in the oil and auto industry conspire to keep mpg the way it is, they could build better planet cars easily, but they would rather lay in their own waste…. ugh, that got ugly. All I really wanted to do was share this vid, it is one of many that just show the Nissan Leaf, I don’t work for them or any crazy shit like that, I just love the fact that there is an electric car in motion. I think just like there are zip car stations all over these days, that there could easily be Charge Stations, or even little parking hang out spots that offer charging. This seems to be the largest obstacle to all of this here in the US, the lack of charging, the car gets 100 miles on a full charge, and that would work for me and my perceived driving habits, but the general public would need a bit more confidence in the whole “what if” scenarios. And well… I would like to think of a potential road trip being accomplished with ease on the charging tip, they get that covered… boom goes progress. WPA this shit! lets go….

So yeah, I want one. Any philanthropist out there? Feel free to hook a guy up. I”m also ready to start the Urban Green Job Training Initiative, this will not only get some jobs in the heart of a jobless zone, but it can be linked with retrofitting America with the new green techs needs that we’re going to need to move into the future. I just have the slogans, and simi plans for this…. but hey, make it my full time job… boom goes the, ok, enough with this boom shit, I”m starting to sound like Chris Burman or something.

Troops pull out of Iraq

Crazy, all I can think about is getting permission to leave work for a anti war march and rally in Champaign a long long time ago. The first invasion of Iraq was the occasion, no blood for oil was the chant, Champaign Surplus was the job. That was like 91 or so… now 2010 the last combat troops are leaving under the cover of night and Ramadan. Pretty cool, pretty sad. Mostly sad. Shit is still off the guard rail in Afghanistan, and will be for a long time. I just hope people can make it home safely, the rule is generally that they do not. Boo war!

just a couple, so lovely the day has hit me. I”m in such a chill mode that the approaching ice cream truck song isn’t tensing me up, that would be it! to stop tensing. I see things in loved ones watched and lived with that tell me this. There to see for some time, but just now do I get a peek. Better late than never. The oil scar is again heavy. It is just heavy, it will never change, nothing about it will ever breath a light lively breath. But you know this, Rachel Maddow had a guest on last night, I shame to be lazy and not look it up, you can if your into that deep information type vibe, but uh… yeah, the guest explained plumes of oil, and what the lifetime of the toxic dispergents will be. This is just fucked. Its so so much more than the oil literally on animals, and beaches, marshland plants, and well…. all visible anger inducing stuff. Its the long historical moment changing things that creates dead zones in the sea. Some life can adapt to these areas, but a very small group of the creatures that would normally call that range of sea home would be able to survive in the air starved water. But yeah, I hope the Hawks rock Philly tomorrow, go Celts… just can’t get with Kobe (his game is the sickest though). Had to leave the oil somehow. Ah, speaking of Maddow, I love her steeze, and the fact that she rocks the elvis look better than him. Oh, and now that ice cream truck is right outside my building, playing a pretty good song, one I don’t know…. that is cool, but not the volume, i’m not tense about it though, remember. Current song at the moment, Let the Wold Turn, Death, the beer Modelo.

Earth Hour…

At about 8:20pm my rice had just started, the beans and spices were also just starting up, at 8:30 I turned off all the light, fired up a couple candles, then started the bath water. Candle light check of the food, still long way to go, water in the tub is hot hot hot, the minerals I put in the tub are now permeating the air of my apt. I ease into the water, blow out the candle, and enjoy an long soak in the darkness. That was the nicest thing I have done for myself in a long time. I liked the idea of participating in Earth Hour, linking up with others in the world by action, as passive as that action was. In the tub I did have lots of thoughts about the single life I have been living, you think about a lot during a dark dark bath. But I came to this feeling that I should be sharing that moment with someone, not just the bath part, but the global action, the household move that was busted. Dry off, stir the beans, rice is done, only 10 more minutes of the darkness.. and now i’m over it, I want to turn the tv one, sit down and have my dinner. I wait, eat by candlelight, and enjoy. Once the hour was up, and the TV was back on, I realized that I hadn’t missed anything, and that the TV should be off more. Lets just think about that, think about a moment of dark realization. Wait, I think the tournament games are on today, oh well. I like to think that the planet was a little darker, or less carbon emitting for that hour, and it was good to be a part of that. Now to get the green jobs for the hood idea I have in my head out of my head.

This is a big deal, not to use Biden’s words…
