My First Pygmalion….

This will be a bit brief, because I only saw 4 acts.  They all rocked nicely for sure.  Excuse, not really a decent one, I worked during the day Friday and Saturday.  Band I missed that I wanted to see the most… Deathtram.  They rule.  Bands I super enjoyed… Hum, Big Frieda, and Dinosaur Jr.  Hum sounded great, good vibe at the Canopy Club, and the free booze…. well, lets just blame that for me missing the other bands that night.  Dinosaur Jr, Ruled!  I have been carrying albums by them in my dj crates for years, and I never thought I would get to hear those songs live.  I don’t really rock the big events in Chicago, even during the 8.5 years that I lived up there, so when they would come through as part of some festival, I would never make it out.  Pygmalion however, in my home town, of course.  The fuckin sounded great.  Big Frieda, was some funness for sure.  Basically repeating chorus… but it was made fun by “azz everywhere, azz everywhere”, him, not me… ok, I enjoyed the ass everywhere.  DJ Belly was on the decks for this, so that was nice to see.  Grizzly Bear, sounded good.  I have to admit that I was basically in full beer conversation mode on the back deck of the HighDive while they were playing, still sounded nice.  And the song by them that seems to be a pretty big hit, I didn’t even know that was by them, and hearing it by surprise was pretty.  I say pretty because the damn song is pretty.  I would have liked to catch Best Coast, even though local homies have been ripping them for a “poor set”, what would you all expect?  They sound great when you are getting ready in the morning, or chilling at work, or on the back porch catching some sun drinking a lemonade, but standing up at a concert, watching them meander through lovely layered love songs… Boring, or I would expect it to be, which is why I just listened to Boyfriend by them, at home, and called it quits.  Overall, I was very impressed by Champaign Urbana pulling that shit off.  Special shout out to Take Care, who I caught the last couple songs of at Mike N Molly’s, they sound awesome, and represented the Paign, and closed out Pygmalion quite well.  Big ups to Seth, and all who helped him rock it.

DINOSAUR JR....

I shot this image sly style during Dinosaur Jr.  Folks were getting down, at least in my neck of the crown, stage right, Jay side.

Midnight… exactly now.

exactly right about a sec ago now, honestly.  But the vibe of the start of this was the feeling of it just hit midnight, while I looked at the clock.  I like stuff like that.  I”m listening to the new Oh No record.  It’s called Ohnomite.  It’s nice.  The last four songs, around song 5 are killing me with the niceness.  You Don’t Know Me, and Dues and Don’ts are just killing it at this very moment.  Here we go with the exactly now thing.  And you would think this was some intentional shit, not really.   I look forward to pumping a few of these tunes at the Cowboy Monkey on Sunday.  If one doesn’t have a goodness about music in their hearts, them hearts ain’t beating.   J To The Vance, speaking of beating, he and I are looking forward to trying to put down some doo doo in Champaign.   Not an album review or anything.  Just a vibe about the record, which is pretty wacked out awesome.  And a cut called Clock Cather is a bit super high, oh wait.  Ohnomite is over, Clock Catchers wasn’t a high ass Oh No song, it was Flying Lotus that was tripper town.  I liked that cut.  But the bulk of his new record, removed from starred Spotify status.   One last moment about Ohnomite!   Eric Sermon drops vocals on a cut.  Pretty nice to hear his voice.  Classic.

collection of life

I have been getting this feeling like I might be letting down the inner fight club fan inside myself.  I am collecting a bunch of stuff in my home that I like, I like how I place it, I like how it looks… But really, it’s a  collection of junk.  In the big picture of things, I call it junk.  Nice looking planters, bookshelves, chairs, display shelves, stuff.  Yeah, it’s stuff you need i guess, to have a nice looking place and all.  But I just keep thinking of how Edward Norton was told by Brad Pitt that his shit was just junk, a collection of filler that makes him feel like he is accomplishing things in life.  Maybe it’s time to peep this attitude again.  I do like my stuff though.

On some tunes.. Kimya Dawson’s Thunder Thighs is killin it!

And yeah… Derrick Rose is still the shit.  Don’t sleep on him again, that would be lame.  Say you are not really into sports at all, no big deal, just watch an interview with this young man, seriously.  After you hear him talk, and hear him talk about his brothers and his mother, and Englewood where he is from… you will root for him after this I promise.
