I have been getting this feeling like I might be letting down the inner fight club fan inside myself. I am collecting a bunch of stuff in my home that I like, I like how I place it, I like how it looks… But really, it’s a collection of junk. In the big picture of things, I call it junk. Nice looking planters, bookshelves, chairs, display shelves, stuff. Yeah, it’s stuff you need i guess, to have a nice looking place and all. But I just keep thinking of how Edward Norton was told by Brad Pitt that his shit was just junk, a collection of filler that makes him feel like he is accomplishing things in life. Maybe it’s time to peep this attitude again. I do like my stuff though.
On some tunes.. Kimya Dawson’s Thunder Thighs is killin it!
And yeah… Derrick Rose is still the shit. Don’t sleep on him again, that would be lame. Say you are not really into sports at all, no big deal, just watch an interview with this young man, seriously. After you hear him talk, and hear him talk about his brothers and his mother, and Englewood where he is from… you will root for him after this I promise.
Heavy D passed away, peep him. His last tweet read “be inspired”….. Do that. He also said “A ship is safe in it’s harbor.. but that,s not what ships are for.”.
I might have to have an awesome day tomorrow.
The sun is out in full glory, the coffee is kickin’ and well… It’s a lovely October day. There are few things that could go wrong today, and those will be out of my control. The things I can control, well…. I”m on it. For reals. Should be a nice result. I like the word result today, very UK.
Speaking of very UK, how about Americans taking it to the streets. Van Jones was saying that the protest are basically a reaction to three years of sitting on a hot stove, and the reactions are folks hollerin’. I love that he used the word Holla, but not in that ridiculous overdone way that so many duck faced fools say “holla” about the most asinine shit. Whoomp Whoomp, Woot Woot, and Holla… signs of stupidity. What is the deal with my lack of joining Occupy Chicago? Do I ask for time off from work, head in after work, wait until my next day off… The revolution is so schedule tough for me. Just kidding, lets do this. Big love for the first occupy folks in NYC, we need this, and I thank you for sparking it. I watch a bit of MSNBC from time to time, and I was baffled by the lack of coverage, but Ed… My least favorite vibe of the line up these days, was on it eventually. Go Ed Shultz, big up. Now we just need Obama to say some shit like, I think I will just create policy out of what those good folks Occupying Wall street say. And they say the message is muddled. Rust Limpdick called the protesters human refuse… yeah, pour some gasoline on this Rush. When will there be a serious left stealth movement that will just take these fools out. I’m not talking about sniper actions or any kind of death, but how about a very quick abduction, drug these fools to knock them out, and dye them black or something… I mean? I guess that would give the 1% carte blanche to round up anyone with a late bill and put them in financial obligation holding tanks (TM). Next step, burn some shit.
On a lighter note, Bears v Lions. I like the bare bones sound of animal fights, Bears and Lions fighting. Gross Roman colosseum type shit right? Well this is just a football game so chill out.
Saw Black Star on the Colbert Report. BLAZE. I will be grabbing that album as soon as I can. The joint they rocked was called Fixin it, or something like that. Blaze lyrics, and this is what we expect from Talib and Yasiin (formally known as Mos Def) Big Ups! I just peeped youtube to maybe post a clip of this performance… nothing. Then I went to Itunes to buy the song, and or lp… nothing yet. I checked out a lot of the new releases in the hip hop rap section. GARBAGE, this would explain the state of the hoods and the lack of any kind of rising up. Rising up to the Gucci Mane’s means fuck your brothers and sisters, get yours, and your neighborhoods can keep looking like strait garbage cans and such. Please teach a little something other than “getting yours”. Lets grow.
I think Portlandia is really great, such a funny show. I do feel like the title is awesome, but it reminds me of all those Gods Country Pacific Northwest Separate from America Neo Nazi types that I would run into in Oly back in mid 90′s. Idaho, Oregon, Washington…. new white nation. Funny, because this has nothing to do with this post. The theme music to Portlandia is some dope dope dope tunes. Washed Out, be the group, Feel It All Around You…. so lovely. Just sit back and chill to this.
Chalked full of political reverence and glitter. Let us not forget about revolution, and how revolution is a natural progression towards any kind of personal rights. Listen up Egypt, once you get it going, don’t fall asleep like us Americans have. We are free, but it’s a certain kind of free, it’s cable tv, fatty foods, toxic ways, and xenophobia. So… get yours! And do Big Things, like Obama would like us Americans to do. Such a gansta way to say that, “We do big things!”.
Get your pop lock on. Big ups to my older cousin DJ Dice, aka Dwayne Bishop. Elder statesman of the dj game, the one I looked up to every since he dj’d my 8th grade graduation.
I seem to not be able to find this particular cassette tape that I bought at an Ethiopian Grocery store in Portland many years ago. I was my official hyped on legal trucker speed driving music. There is a melody that has been in my head for over a month, I couldn’t read the artist name, or song titles on the cassette, so I have no words to jar my memory, just the image of the cover, and yeah…. Gold, red and green, ha ha. Not on the Ras tip, very soulful tunes. I need to find this. Last place I recall hearing it would be Jenns van, on the way back…. There is no way it would still be in that van, this won’t stop me from asking her about it later today, who knows…. until then, maybe this will get me through the wait.
Either there is a very uncanny vibe of all of this sounding the same, or this is the dude… pretty sure this sax is from my jammy jam. Ok, most likely not. Rock steady ya’ll.
Saw one of the SNL performances recently, Lil’ Wayne and Eminem together eh? I had no expectations and well.. after Lil’ Wayne’s verse and then the chorus, my expectations fell to flatsville, in so far as me expecting any kind of save from Eminem. I was wrong. His verse was twice as long, seemed even a bit longer than that, and it was full of pace and purpose, real cadence of flow. The same type shit you hear from old RZA freestyles, and studios cuts, The RZA is a master of this flowtron technique. You can just tell when he hits this next level of flowtron. I love that shit, it’s one of the elements of Hip Hop that will have me hooked for the rest of my life. I’ll always rock whatever needs to be rocked, Bruce Lee style, in the sense that every kind of every everything has some good going on. Often that level of good is very high.
Very unrelated, I have a humidifier that I just turned on for the first time. I have never lived anywhere where there is such a thing built into the central heating system. Feels kind of pimp, but I know it’s most likely a wasteful indulgence. Back to the topic, I saw the music video for the same song I saw in SNL, and wows… Eminem even kills it on the recorded version, the exact pace and fullness in there. Pretty dope. I”ll spare you the vid, the anti’ bullying vibe of it is really right on and all, but it is just hokey. Not up in BBO yo.
So what, they were really on their game with Red Skies At Night.
That is the actual jam, shop class Edison Jr High type shit. Entering my wanna be cool kid phase, and entering it well. I mean, if this was one of my jams? Some other ish that is right about this time, U2. Craig Carter, Crash’s cousin had a nice U2 stash. I remember hating this vid, New Years Day, I thought it was just dreadful, but see… I was on some dumb action, hair, color, chicks, type shit. I couldn’t settle my 80′s trash Lauper vibe for a small art video. I like it much more these days. And think, this era of U2 is the beginning of my slow lose of respect for their tunes. Though they clearly are doing well for themselves in that Rock Star kind of way, can’t hate.
This song is a much better riff cut, I really dug this, takes me back to Record Swap, upstairs.. Green Street. I know I bought this on LP there, the break at the end… YOUR EYES.
I could not help this. If you are here, and well… you might be chill enough to watch a long vid. This Kanye joint Runaway, is way nice to look at. Dinner Scene…. done.
Yeah, ballsy and all that. But beauty, ego, art, beats. I have heard songs from this last album for sure, but there was a moment while watching this, when I realized at one point that he was torturing an autotune effect through massive distortion. Kinda punk, not like that is the aim for him, or anyone for that matter. Be you, be us, Or something like that.
Slippage, what a funny word. I have been slippin’ on the photos lately, been without my trusty little point and shoot. Maybe this is a sign to buy this Nikon i have been eyeing. What ev’. I went to the Green Mill last night, hung with some Russians. Very fun time, even drinking the lost in translation accidentally ordered Vermouth on the rocks with a lime… funny shit. Great music, Sabertooth was the later group, very real jazz. I get why this spot has been around for so long. Look at that a mention of the Green Mills history without bringing up the ole crime boss… ooops, just did.
Is woomp and Woot the new frat boy quoting Dave Chappelle’s Rick James riff…? I think so. The same feeling comes over me that use to happen when I heard “i’m rick james bitch” from… well, you know… the wrong person. Anyone can say whatever they like, but there is something to be said for the overall effect of the message being killed by the overkill. Like pop songs, and commercials, its just wack.
Kanye, Blonde Redhead…. I had never bought any Kanye. I appreciated him, love his beats, and kind of just never got into the actual purchasing. That doesn’t mean i ripped his shit either. I just have never had any of his cuts in my LP collection, or of late the old Itunes. No boycott or anything, just never did. Well last week, almost out of boredom, I purchased his most recent album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, and well.. it is dope. Even the singing… Even the female hooked joints are good. ”its a beautiful death, like jumpin out a window”, that lyric has been in my head for the week, and not because i’m dark and depressed and thinking about suicide. No none of that. It’s just a melodic winner. What is funny about the Kanye purchase for me, is that it was pretty much sparked by that SNL performance a couple months ago, that shit was off the _______ (insert your own dump word there). Really nice to look at and hear, those dancers were amazing. Modern movement along with beats. I just searched for the banned album cover, pretty tame. And really, this is not cool with the “general public”. Something like that would totally be the subject of some nice painting in a snooty gallery. America is on some funny shit lately.
Blonde Redhead… well, I find it also a bit odd, that I don’t have their most recent album. I truly love this group, they embody a lot of what I like in music, live band wise, and what’s not to like about them, I mean, check these cats out.
I bought three Christmas presents this year, to be sent down to Champaign. The only reason I bring this up is because, other than secret santa stuff at jobs I have had over the years, the last time I bought anyone a Christmas gift had to be over 15 years ago. I have been getting over on this crap ass holiday for all these years. This year I started to feel like a bad uncle, I mean… I had awesome Christmas’s growing up (big ups Mom!), but I got all political about what the holiday has become. I of course still feel like it’s all a sham. I like the Family togetherness concept about the holidays and all, but think about it. How stressed are people about doing the family togetherness? Another thing I did recently, as recently as an hour ago, was that I bought sugar. Evil, super lame refined white cane sugar. It as been since the days when I was making my stoner Kook Aid, that would be 89-90… I just felt like my coffee wanted some today, so yeah, I walked over to Walton and Francisco and bought Domino sugar. Hint Hint.. good coffee and sugar equals crazy time for me.
